Show collapsed menu in ipad landscape

The menu hover behaviour is problematic on the Toronto demo or our site on an ipad – the submenus are (rarely) shown. The collapsed menu works perfectly on an ipad in portrait, but it shows the desktop menu on ipad in landscape.

How do we show the collapsed menu in landscape? I tested updating bootstrap.css 768 references without success.
