Home product blocks (deals)

Hello, I would like you to tell me how the deals block work. I would like to have the deals block on top in grid mode(4 products in grid mode) and new products below with 8 products in grid mode(4 one row and another 4 below). I tried changing the page code but all I did is mess my site. Can you please help?
Something like this:
