If you want to remove index.php on your frontend. Please go to Admin -> System -> Configuration -> General -> Web -> Search engine Optimization -> Use Web Server Rewrites: Yes
I’ve try with my local and my demo. It work well
Sometime it depend your hosting/server. You need enable mod_rewrite. You can also contact your hosting provide for assistance
